BUT they are from another planet, there are good and bad ones, and they have special earth friends. That is all I can figure out. JUST LOVED the movie though and want to see new one. The concept of cars turning into robots is cool. Here is article with breakdown on how to know some of the characters... .I suggest pritn out before seeing movie if you aren't familiar.

There are similarities though the ones that are the same in all comics Autobot/Decepticons, home is Cybertron...Decepticons want power. Apart from the depcition of Optimus Prime things are always different. There was no Allspark in G1 or anything
